We have lived a number of places over the years in ministry. One of our favorite communities was Buffalo, WY where I worked in a busy medical center answering phone calls and scheduling patients.

I learned many local expressions from the folks. One of my favorites was, “I’ve got a hitch in my get-a-long”. I think it applied to a variety of ailments like the one I am having with my knee these days that makes walking a little shaky at times.

Have you ever had a hitch in your get-a-long?

It happened to me recently. Things were going along so well – amazing prayer life, insights were flying off the pages of my Bible, and it seemed like my relationship with Jesus was at an all-time high. All of a sudden a hitch of doubt slowed my gait and buffeted my enthusiasm. The enemy taunted, “Those prayers will never be answered. Why don’t you quit filling yourself?

The scary part is I started to believe him…

Then I heard another voice – still and quite. I knew that voice. It was my Heavenly Father reminding me if he delivered David from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear, he could deliver me as well (1 Samuel 17:37). God also reminded me to “be strong, take heart and wait for him” (Psalm 27:14). He reminded me to choose joy regardless of my circumstance.

I am not sure what type of “hitch” you may be encountering at this time. However, I know we serve a God who can do more than we can ever ask or imagine – including fixing any hitches in our get-a-long.
