Occasionally I watch a program that includes a segment titled One More Thing.
Often I walk away from Sunday thinking of another idea I could have teased out. So I am starting a new blog called One More Thing with the goal of teasing out another idea from the Biblical passage.
Psalm 27 closes this way:
I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
We heard Cheryl say as she waited for the Lord he showed his goodness in a number of ways – mostly he showed his goodness through people who took an interest in her. God painted a masterpiece using the amazing palette of the body of Christ.
So here is the one more thing: Psalm 27 is fulfilled when we step into the messiness and brokenness of the world with acts of love and kindness. It’s an amazing and humbling truth: God displays his goodness in the land of the living through people like you and me. And more, when we step into the chaos around us we are in reality serving Jesus (Matthew 25:40, ‘whatever you did for the least of these you did for me”).
I dream of a church where the Kingdom that is coming is shattering strongholds now… restoring hope, breaking chains of addiction, mending broken hearts and broken marriages, setting prisoners free from the past. And I want to invite others to join me in living the dream …
In the words of Rev. Francis Ritchey:
There’s a world groaning to be transformed by that reality – crying out for it. Let’s be part of that goodness being made known in the land of the living. Don’t quit.
