One More Thing
Psalm 96

It is hard for me to read Psalm 96 because I first learned the opening verses back in our children’s ministry days. So now each time I come to this beloved psalm I am back in a room full of kids and it comes out like this:

Sing, sing, sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing, sing, sing to the Lord all the earth;
Sing, sing, sing to the Lord praise his na-ame;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Psalm 96:1 – sing, sing
Psalm 96:2 – sing, sing
Psalm 96:1, Psalm 96:2 – Sing, O sing to the Lord.
Sing, sing, sing to the Lord praise his na-ame;
proclaim his salvation day after day.

The song stuck! I’m surprised I didn’t sing it on Sunday. Ask me the next time you see me, and maybe I’ll sing it for you. 🙂

Here’s the one more thing: what we learn at an early age stays with us. A week from Saturday our church plans to host the 3rd annual Back to School Bash. It’s a lot of work and so many people contribute to the event’s success. We’ll give away lots of stuff; hand out free food; and there will be lots of activities for the kiddos.

As we pray for the Back to School Bash – pray the kiddos will pick up something that will outlast the backpacks and school supplies. Pray the girls and boys will pick up a tune, “Jesus loves me this I know.” Maybe the seed of the simple song will grow into mighty faith one day. Pray the tune will stick in their hearts. Pray even the adults will see something good happens at church because the love of Jesus is thick in the air on July 28.

Perhaps the sweet melody of a simple song would change the lives of children and adults. I plan to sing the song as I walk to and from the office each day as a prayer for the Back to School Bash. I wonder, would you make this your prayer?

Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to him belong. They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me; yes, Jesus loves me; yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so.
